Spain

Spain offers public and private higher education across aerospace, engineering, renewable energy, computing, transport, business and scientific research.

Typical Annual Tuition

€3,000 – €12,000

Planning range for many non-EU students at public universities. Private and specialised engineering programmes may charge more.

Typical Annual Living Cost

€9,600 – €15,000

Based on approximately EUR 800–1,250 per month; Madrid and Barcelona are generally more expensive.

Overview

Spain’s higher-education system includes public universities, private universities, polytechnic institutions and specialist schools.

Degree programmes follow the European bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral structure and use ECTS credits.

Spain has academic and industrial activity in aerospace, automotive engineering, rail transport, renewable energy, infrastructure, computing and telecommunications.

Why Study Here?

Spain offers engineering and technology programmes in major academic centres including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Bilbao.

Public-university tuition can be relatively affordable, although non-EU fees and regional pricing differ.

English-taught programmes are available, particularly at master’s level, but Spanish is valuable for professional integration.

Education System

Grado bachelor’s degrees generally require four years and 240 ECTS credits.

Official master’s degrees commonly take one or two years. Doctoral programmes normally follow an appropriate master’s qualification.

Admission and foreign-qualification recognition procedures differ by institution, autonomous community and study level.

Student Visa Overview

EU and EEA students do not require a student visa, although longer stays require local registration.

Non-EU/EEA applicants generally require a student visa before arrival and must show admission, sufficient finances, insurance, a valid passport and other required documentation.

Students staying longer than the applicable period may also need a foreigner identity card or residence formalities after arrival.

Post-Study Work

Eligible graduates may apply for residence permission to seek employment or undertake an entrepreneurial project after completing qualifying higher education.

The job-search period is temporary and does not itself guarantee unrestricted long-term residence.

Graduates who secure qualifying work must transition into the appropriate employment or self-employment status.

Scholarships

Funding may include Spanish ministry programmes, Erasmus support, regional grants, university awards and foundation scholarships.

Many national grants are restricted by residence or nationality, so international applicants should examine institution-specific and external funding carefully.
