Job Description
The Cryogenic Systems Engineer owns two integrated systems at the Z-Star fusion facility: its high-vacuum cryopumping system and its four-kelvin target and liner cooling system. The engineer leads design, procurement, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
Responsibilities
• Design the multistage vacuum and cryopumping system.
• Specify turbopumps, cryopumps, valves, sensors and controls.
• Design the four-kelvin target and liner cooling system.
• Develop system calculations and operating requirements.
• Procure, install and commission cryogenic equipment.
• Create operating and maintenance procedures.
• Troubleshoot vacuum and cryogenic-system performance.
• Serve as the facility’s subject-matter expert.
Eligibility
• Relevant mechanical, aerospace, chemical or cryogenic-engineering education.
• Experience designing or operating cryogenic or high-vacuum systems.
• Knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid systems.
• Ability to work onsite in San Leandro.
• Ability to satisfy US export-control requirements.
