Job Description

The Senior Automation and Controls Engineer will support Rivian’s drive-unit manufacturing equipment in Normal, Illinois. The engineer will be responsible for production-line control systems, industrial automation and equipment reliability. This position combines PLC programming, robot integration, safety-system implementation and plant troubleshooting to maintain production and prepare equipment for future vehicle programmes.

Responsibilities

• Program and troubleshoot PLC-based production equipment.
• Support industrial robots, gantries, conveyors and drive-unit assembly machinery.
• Diagnose equipment faults and restore production-line operation.
• Implement control-system changes for future production requirements.
• Ensure machine-safety systems satisfy relevant ANSI, RIA and OSHA requirements.
• Participate in factory-acceptance and site-acceptance testing.
• Support equipment commissioning, upgrades and configuration changes.
• Troubleshoot industrial networks and communication systems.
• Integrate production equipment with manufacturing-execution systems.
• Document controls architecture, programme changes and troubleshooting procedures.

Eligibility

• Engineering degree or equivalent controls and automation experience.
• Relevant professional experience supporting high-volume manufacturing equipment.
• Advanced PLC programming and troubleshooting capability.
• Understanding of industrial machinery, control-reliable safety and automation systems.
• Ability to work directly with equipment suppliers, technicians and production teams.
