Programme Overview

The University of Glasgow Sustainable Energy MSc provides interdisciplinary education across the technological, economic and social dimensions of modern energy systems.

Students study renewable and sustainable energy, energy conversion, environmental impacts and integrated energy-system design.

Core study includes Energy and Environment, Energy Conversion Systems, Renewable and Sustainable Energy and Waste Heat and Power-to-X.

Optional study can include electrical-energy systems, power electronics, thermal engineering and sustainability.

The programme combines lectures, seminars, laboratory work, team projects and an individual MSc research project.

Entry Requirements

Applicants normally require a UK 2:1 honours degree or equivalent international qualification in:

Engineering
Physical Sciences
Mathematics
Environmental or Land Sciences with appropriate quantitative preparation

Applicants must have suitable study in engineering mathematics or mathematics.

A 2:2 degree may exceptionally be considered where the applicant demonstrates stronger performance in relevant mathematical modules.

Substantial relevant professional experience may also be considered where academic results fall slightly below the normal requirement.

Scholarship Information

India Excellence Award For the 2026/27 cycle, the University of Glasgow offered up to 10 scholarships for international students from India studying a one-year postgraduate taught Master's programme. The award provided a £12,500 tuition-fee waiver. African Excellence Award Eligible students from selected African countries may compete for full tuition-fee scholarships. Chevening Scholarship Eligible international applicants may apply for UK Government Chevening funding. Additional University of Glasgow and country-specific scholarships may also be available in future admission cycles.
