The Electronics & Avionics pathway connects electrical engineering, electronics, embedded systems, communications, control engineering and computer engineering with aircraft, spacecraft and advanced mobility systems.

Modern aircraft depend on complex electronic architectures for navigation, communications, flight control, sensing, displays, power management, monitoring and mission systems. As aircraft become more connected and software-driven, the interaction between electronics, embedded software and systems engineering continues to grow.

Students can enter avionics through dedicated aerospace or avionics programmes or through electrical, electronic, computer or control engineering qualifications followed by specialised projects or postgraduate study.

Career Direction

Careers

Avionics engineers work on electronic and computing systems used in aircraft, spacecraft and other safety-critical platforms. Roles can involve hardware design, embedded software, systems integration, testing, certification, navigation, communications and control.

The same electronics and embedded-systems foundation can also lead into automotive systems, robotics, defence electronics, industrial automation and advanced control engineering.
