Programme Overview
The University of Southampton Microelectronics Systems Design MSc provides advanced education in the design and implementation of modern microelectronic systems.
The programme focuses on digital and analogue integrated-circuit design, electronic systems engineering and the integration of complex microelectronic devices.
Students develop skills in digital VLSI design, system-on-chip development, FPGA implementation, electronic-system modelling and simulation, embedded processors and advanced hardware design.
The curriculum includes taught modules, practical design work, laboratory activities and an individual research project culminating in a dissertation.
Students can also choose specialist topics such as digital systems synthesis, hardware accelerators, embedded processors, quantum devices and secure hardware and embedded devices.
Entry Requirements
Applicants normally need a UK 2:1 degree or equivalent international qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering.
Applicants must also normally achieve at least a good 2:1 level, approximately 65%, in relevant undergraduate technical study including:
At least 1 advanced mathematics module
At least 1 advanced physics module
At least 1 circuit module such as circuit design or circuit analysis
At least 2 relevant electronics modules such as electronics design, embedded-system design, digital electronics or semiconductor devices
Applicants are also expected to have suitable preparation in electronic circuits, systems and engineering mathematics.
International qualifications are assessed according to the University of Southampton's published country-specific equivalencies.
