Programme Overview

ETH Zurich's MSc in Data Science provides interdisciplinary postgraduate education in extracting knowledge and insight from complex data.

The programme combines computer science, mathematics and statistics with advanced computational techniques.

Students develop expertise in machine learning, data analysis, algorithms, statistical modelling and computational approaches to large and complex datasets.

The curriculum includes advanced coursework, interdisciplinary work and a Master's thesis and is designed to prepare graduates for research and data-intensive technical careers.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold a recognised Bachelor's degree with strong preparation relevant to data science.

Mathematics
Physics
Other sufficiently related quantitative disciplines may be assessed according to ETH's requirement profile.

Applications are assessed competitively.

Two recommendation letters and a motivation letter are required for applicable international applicants.

English-Language Requirements

The programme is taught in English.

English-language proficiency at CEFR Level C1 is required by the application deadline unless an official ETH Zurich exemption applies.

Recognised certificates include approved IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge English qualifications subject to ETH's current validity and minimum-score rules.

Scholarship Information

Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) ETH Zurich's ESOP supports outstanding Master's students. The scholarship is designed to cover study and living costs during the Master's degree. For Autumn 2027 entry, the application window is 1 November to 30 November 2026. ETH also offers need-based social scholarships for eligible Master's students.
