Programme Overview
The University of Manchester Advanced Engineering Materials MSc provides advanced postgraduate education in the design, selection, processing and performance of materials used in modern engineering applications.
Students develop an in-depth understanding of how processing, structure, properties and stability influence the behaviour and selection of engineering materials.
The programme is supported by extensive materials research and laboratory facilities, including electron microscopy, mechanical testing, polymer processing, corrosion laboratories, chemistry laboratories, the National Graphene Institute and the Henry Royce Institute.
Students develop analytical, experimental and engineering problem-solving skills that can be applied across aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, energy and other advanced technology industries.
The course is accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and supports progression toward professional engineering registration when combined with appropriate prior study.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should normally hold at least a UK 2:2 Honours degree or an equivalent international qualification.

Other closely related subjects
Applicants with a first degree in Chemistry are normally expected to hold at least a UK 2:1 classification or equivalent.
Applicants from other quantitative backgrounds, including Mathematics, may also be considered.
Applications are assessed using the applicant's full academic history, relevant modules, grades and supporting documents.
An academic reference is normally required.
Applicants who graduated more than three years ago may also need to provide a CV.
Admission is competitive and meeting the minimum academic requirement does not guarantee an offer.
