Programme Overview
ETH Zurich's MSc in Environmental Sciences provides interdisciplinary scientific education for understanding and solving complex environmental problems.
Students study environmental systems from natural-science, technological, social and policy perspectives.
Six specialisations are available:
Atmosphere and Climate
Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics
Ecology and Evolution
Environmental Systems and Policy
Forest and Landscape Management
Human Health, Nutrition and Environment
Students complete advanced coursework, an 18-week professional internship and a Master's thesis.
The programme prepares graduates to develop and implement scientifically informed solutions across environmental policy, consultancy, research, government and industry.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold a recognised Bachelor's degree providing sufficient preparation in environmental sciences and related subjects.
Required background includes appropriate study in:

Natural Sciences
Environmental Systems
Social Sciences and Humanities
Subjects relevant to the selected specialisation
Admission is selective and applications are assessed against ETH Zurich's programme-specific requirement profile.
Two academic recommendation letters and a motivation letter are required for applicable external applicants.
English-Language Requirements
The programme is taught in English.
English proficiency at CEFR Level C1 is required by the application deadline unless the applicant qualifies for an official ETH Zurich exemption.
Applicants should use an ETH-recognised language certificate such as an approved IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge English qualification.

Scholarship Information
Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) ETH Zurich's ESOP supports outstanding Master's applicants. The award provides CHF 12,000 per semester toward living and study expenses together with a tuition-fee waiver. The ESOP application is submitted together with the Master's application during the first application window. ETH also provides need-based financial assistance for eligible students.
